Written in 1973, Equus the Musical is a story of psychiatrist Dr. Martin Dysart who treats a young teenager Alan Strang's uncontrolled imprisonment leads him to blind six horses in a Hampshire stable, psychiatrist Dr. Martin Dysart is tasked with revealing the motive behind the boy's action. Equus received its stage premiere at the National Theatre in 1973, directed by John Dexter. It went on to play Broadway at the Plymouth Theatre in 1974, and it then ran for over 1,000 performances at the Helen Hayes Theatre. Over the course of the run, the production starred Anthony Hopkins, Richard Burton, Leonard Nimoy and Anthony Perkins.
